27-year-old Barcelona ace ready to leave the club in the summer

It has been only six months since Memphis Depay arrived at Barcelona, but speculations over his exit are already mounting.

The 27-year-old was signed by the Blaugrana on a free transfer after his contract with Olympique Lyon had run out. Following the exits of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann, the Dutchman was tipped to take over the mantle of being the main man in attack for the club.

And while things began well for Memphis at Camp Nou, soon enough, his form took a nosedive. Eight goals in 16 La Liga outings is not exactly a bad return, but quite a few of those goals have come from the penalty spot, and he failed to find the back of the net even once in BarΓ§a’s doomed UEFA Champions League campaign.

Furthermore, doubts have been raised over his suitability in Xavi’s system, especially with the club having Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, and, at least for the time being, Ousmane Dembele.

So, El Nacional is now reporting that the former Manchester United forward is seriously considering the possibility of leaving Barcelona in the summer. Having seen the two main reasons for his arrival – Messi and Ronald Koeman – depart, the Netherlands international is leaning towards an exit more and more.

The report adds that Depay does not trust Xavi to hand him minutes regularly. And, with Barça pushing to sign another striker in Erling Haaland in the summer, his chances would further deplete. As a result, the Dutchman would be willing to leave Camp Nou just a year after arriving.

Laporta & co. would be open to the prospect of offloading him at the end of the season and would see it as good business, considering that he was signed for free.
